It became quite noticeable by mid-afternoon that Civic Guard presence had increased at the Wharf gate, where a temporary shack had been set up manned by at least three guardsmen, one of which was definitely a spellcaster. There was a line of citizens on either side of the gate, and they were being made to go through one at a time, which was taking time and causing a bit of a traffic jam, as it were. A horse drawn merchant's cart was being searched thoroughly by one of the other guards, making sure nothing was hiding under the tarp, sword drawn. Off to one side, an officer was speaking to a pair of people who were detained, and was in the process of releasing them. The mood was serious, and there was very little joking around.
This scene was playing out much the same at the Gessi district gate, as well as the eastern, southeastern, and southern gates that led out of the city. Some people were clearly upset at this, since the lockdown was preventing timely access to and from that section of the city, and there were no other available routes to and from those districts without having to subject themselves to search and possible seizure.

A week from the lockdown being instituted over the wharf, word got around that the sweeps of guards had ended. The five man teams were back to normal duty, but the gate guards and the screenings that were taking place would continue. At least until the last vampire from Lathrelk was caught and destroyed, along with any friends he may have made during his stay in the city. Guards returned to two-man patrols while there was a vampire at large.
