Growth Cycle

Krimian Pine trees that are left alone manage to go through their entire growth cycle in ten years, in the wild they grow from the seeds hidden inside of cones that fall from the tree and explode with the impact, scattering the rock hard burning seeds like shrapnel. These seeds are a bright red color with a pearly sheen that make them look like magma. The seed burns through the uppers surface of earth and only after it manages to bury itself into the ground does the burning cease. By this method of 'planting' it manages to put itself into the dirt and create a nutrient rich layer of ash above it from which it feeds. Though an entire tree can explode if touched as long as the tree remains undisturbed in this way, it can grow only three or so feet high with thick but short branches.

Regional Information

Greater Pentland with its mild climate is a perfect place for these trees to grow and they are unable to grow in any other region normally in a large part due to their nature as well as to the environment in which they grow. There are locally horror stories about the nature of these trees and the chaos that they brought by growing in profusion, entire villages were destroyed when they were allowed to grow unchecked.

Cultivation

Because of the chaos that these trees caused when allowed to grow naturally the plant has been all but eradicated and only grows in deliberately farmed groves where the grower must be extremely careful about how far apart the trees grow in case one combusts. Because also of the manner in which the tree's seeds behave the act of planting is as dangerous as the growing. Because of the violent nature of the trees and the danger of being grown

Uses

Resourceful humans have learned to carefully harvest them for alchemical and military ingredients. Their reddish needles contain traces of magic elemental fire along with hollow cavities in the stubby branches. If someone disturbs the tree with force, the cavities burst, showering the offender with incendiary needles that burst into flames and cinders. Though the needle and cones are highly explosive they can be transported and used in ingredients for combat or assassination.
