The truth is, having been in and out of the Umbra so often, he might not even remember where home actually was. Over the last several years, he has been trapped in his dire wolf form by the use of corrupted chains, that bit into his flesh and healed over, becoming part of him. These chains prevented him from shifting forms, leaving him in a feral state. Eventually he got free from his imprisonment, but those chains still bound him to his dire wolf form. The corruption in the chains began to twist his psyche, turning him into an angry and vengeful "spirit" of the forest. Any forest. Wherever his paws took him, he could not fight the feral nature that the chains wrought, forcing him to behave this way. Inside he was screaming, but outside there was only gnashing teeth, and a ghostly howl.

For a while he just went from place to place, and in general tended to find much of the populace weak and wanted no part of it. After several years of this, he grew tired of the constant wandering and decided the next place he emerged would be where he would settle down.

He had faced off against so many of his own kind, in so many places and times. The years went by in the blink of an eye, and he began to lose himself little by little. He knew that this could not go on forever, and eventually he would be lost within the feral mind.

That only left the tricky subject of finding work, because every civilization required money for pretty much everything. It was easy enough to get a job on the docks. With his size and strength he has no trouble moving cargo onto and off ships without the help of other dock workers or fancy things like pulleys.

It was like every time since the beginning of his unending nightmare, though this time he'd stumbled into the graveyard under the watchful eye of [[Tarma]]. Immediately she sensed both him and the corruption, and as always, a battle ensued. She issued a challenge, and the corrupt, feral mind sought only blood and death. She, however, realized there was something else at play, that it wasn't just him that was corrupt, and she focused her efforts on the chains themselves. Though their battle was brief, and damage to the graveyard was minor, they had both given their all in a short span of time. Ultimately, Tarma was successful in securing Ulfric's freedom from those chains, but it leaves him trapped in Drache. There could be worse places to be. Besides, given the choice, he'd rather be trapped in a place and time having found one of his kind with whom he forged an immediate bond. One day he will repay this life debt he feels he now owes her. Somehow.
