They were also the first group to master the production of iron, and conquered the neighboring Dolluthian kingdoms in 1553 BT (1023 BG in Ellurian reckoning). The House of Eber in Marland rebelled against the ruling Elzanth dynasty following this defeat, and though Jodash III fell in battle with the rebels, they were unable to take Arausch. As a result, Emil was divided into Eastern and Western halves with rival monarchs claiming to be the legitimate King of all of Emil for the next century and a half. This situation persisted until King Throllo of the Elzanth dynasty died without a male heir in the year 223 (773 ER). The King's brother Ulyss was so unpopular with the aristocracy of Arausch that they instead proposed a dynastic marriage between Throllo's daughter, Princess Alani and King Lairson of Marland.
