Biography

Born in a fusion household of Alesian and Nipanguan culture, Caleb turned out to be a born sorcerer skilled in starlight and the dark spaces in between. His father trained him in war tactics and techniques from a young age. He later began his mercenary apprenticeship with his father, who allowed him to spectate for the first few years, and became quite the sidekick at around 15. Caleb had a knack for repairing their equipment, becoming quite the smith for his family and earning some income of his own.

With guidance from his mother, he had also been studying her notes and books, educating himself while on the road with his father. As he grew into an adult, his father imparted a few words upon him as the senior began to show his age. “Don’t waste your youth. Work hard now.” From that point on, Caleb gave everything his all. The young man took off from Panguro at 18, determined to take on the west with everything he had to offer. He arrived in Drache after a year of traveling. Fighting skilled veterans in the arena for show, he soon learned the harsh reality of the world. With a watchful eye, he picked up what information he could use to enhance his technique and started taking on escort missions, which soon escalated not long after. Catching wind of the Trouble Finders Guild, he made them his next priority. He needed allies, and he was certain that he would find them there.

Personality

Stoicism is his natural state. Keeps his thoughts and emotions to himself unless he is relaying something important. Not normally a talkative person, but can be made to speak with a bit of prodding at the surface. Can come off as a bit dry and unattentive, but he is fully engaged.

Physical Description

On the top of his head is a shaggy, black bundle of hair. His caramel skin brings out his milk chocolate eyes, and wears glasses-- courtesy of his mother. Underneath his dark steel armor is a trained body that works at peak capacity. He is not ridiculously muscular, but he has a fair amount of definition while also retaining his flexibility.

Abilities & Skills

Physical Abilities

As a rising mercenary, he is known for his fighting techniques and magical skill. His father taught him Alesian shield techniques and opted to pick up the hammer for his weapon of choice. Taking on other armored individuals, he is known to have a strong hand which allows him to cave in breastplates after a few attempts. That same hammer is put to the anvil, where he maintains his equipment and takes on the occasional smithing request. He practices dark and light magic. The former is umbrakinesis: he manipulates shadows, changing the corporeality of it and creating a ranged arsenal that can cover distance. The latter is used for enhancement of physical capabilities and healing-- these healing arts take more time, and he is a second-rate medic. If there is a life threatening injury, he is not the healer to go to. In combat, he often leads with a flash of light and then shrouds his approach with shadows.

Mundane Skills

  • Smithing - Knows his way around the forge. Makes durable equipment, but is not a top tier steelworker yet.
  • Languages - Can read and write in many forms of common and elvish. Knows a few words from various mercenaries around the world.
  • Armed Combat - Knows his way around a shield, and is proficient with a sword and hammer. Knows hand-to-hand self defense, but that is outshined by his skill with weapons.
  • Enchantment - A beginner in enchanting, he practices this slowly and privately, like most of his magical training.

Magic Skills

  • Umbrakinesis - His main game plan in terms of magical combat. Most commonly uses it to give him an extra pair of weapons that take on a shadowy, spectral form. They float around, which he controls with his mind. They extend long range, allowing him to deal with ranged units despite his preference of martial technique. They reach 50 feet all around him, and they require his line of sight to use them properly. When not in combat, he uses this in the form of a mage hand skill.
  • Rejuvenating Light - A ritual spell that accelerates the recovery process for an injured person that isn’t mortally wounded.
  • Starlight Requiem - A physically enhancing spell that takes some time before battle to cast. It grants the target more speed and strength, but it decays over a 10 minute period once it is in effect.

Weapons

  • Tower Shield - A large wall of protection that is wielded with ease.
  • Obsidian Hilt - A conduit for magic that allows him to create an umbral weapon of his choice. Most commonly becomes a warhammer or broadsword.
  • Silvered Bastard Blade - A hand-me down blade crafted by his father. Made with strong Nipanguan steel, it is lined with silver, leaving it with quite the glimmer at the point.

Armor

Full set of plate armor - A styled armor that fits comfortably on his body. Could be worn by a samurai or a paladin and it wouldn’t make a difference.

Goals

Interested in joining the Trouble Finder’s guild and doing freelance mercenary work for the good of the people. Hopes to find allies that also wish to protect the lands, and is wary of those that wish to do it harm or only have their own desires in mind.
