Biography

Velcretia, and her twin brother, Velsarius, were born during the creation of the Dreamlands. Considered the daughter of Raven Father, she has no known mother and is thought to have just been summoned into being by Raven Father. Both she and her brother are thought of as fae demi-gods, though the actual scope of their power and domain has never been catalogued. The twins share a single heart, which looks much like a fist size ruby that is clearly riven down the middle. The two halves were fused together and kept in their palace that sits atop a cliff overlooking the Fithran city.

She does not recall having a childhood as a mortal would reckon such things, but she does remember the world being fresh. It is the duty of the Raven Twins to steward the Fithran of the Dreamlands, to keep the Nightmare Realm safely sequestered behind its walls, and to guard the dreams of mortals. Velcretia has faithfully fulfilled her duty, save for the lapse of jealousy and rage that she felt when her twin became enamored of a mortal woman. This led to a long period of instability for her, and she wandered the Nightmare Realms for an untold amount of time. The fel energies and the beings that lurk in that world welcomed their Princess. Cradled in their negativity, Velcretia was molded and warped into a creature of great avarice.

Enraged by the idea of her beloved brother falling in love with a mortal girl of a sunlit world, Velcretia stole their heart and went on the run. She visited mortal realms and wandered long after the death of Velsarius's mortal lover. Velcretia kept their heart with her at all times, chained to her belt. There was great danger in the possible loss or theft of the twins' heart, but she was heedless of these possibilities. Luckily, at no point did it leave her possession until Velsarius, with a party of mortals, cornered her to purify her of her madness. Raven Father permanently fused their heart together, hoping to mend their rift through force.

After this purification, Velcretia returned to much of her old self. But then it was Velsarius's turn to fall to madness, still grieving for his sunlit girl. Through their newly bound heart, Velcretia could feel the throes of grief and madness that were taking hold of her brother but could do nothing to stop it. She was as powerless as he was when she succumbed to her own nightmares. This went on for so long that eventually, Velsarius took to expressing his pain in the mortal realm, cursing Drache to endless nightmares. During this time, Velcretia stole their heart once again, this time to protect it from her brother's consuming anger. Fleeing to the same mortal realm, Velcretia, walking by day as a mortal woman by the name of Vel'a, gathered a party of the ubiquitous adventurers of Drache to capture her brother and drag him to the Temple Mount in the Dreamlands. Once Velsarius was purged of his own madness, their heart was thrust into the black tree that sprouted in the center of the roofless temple, where it remains to this day.

Velcretia and Velsarius, now both sane, administer their world and worry about the growing threat from the Nightmare Realm.

Personality

When sane, Velcretia is a quiet, reserved young woman who deeply loves and cherishes her twin brother. She is soft spoken and rarely raises her voice in anger or frustration. She both loves and is beloved by the Fithran people; her duty to them is paramount on her mind, and something that she considers Raven Father's great trust in his children. Serious about the geas laid on her, she earnestly tries to do what is best by the Fithran.

During her bouts of insanity, Velcretia is a whirlwind force of nature, enraged and jealous by her brother's repeated fixation on the reincarnation of his once mortal lover. She is capricious and cruel, and does not hesitate to indulge in her worst impulses, no matter what they are. Plainly put, the fae is extremely volatile and self destructive, willing to burn down the world in her anger.

Physical Description

Velcretia is an ethereally beautiful fae woman, like so many fae nobility. Raven dark hair falls in a cascade to her waist, and her large, blue eyes are like sapphires glittering in the moonlight. She has very clearly never seen the sun before in her natural guise, and her pallor reflects that, like much of the Fithran. Dressed as elaborately or plainly as she cares, she prefers the darker blues or black for her clothing and adornment, ever since her purification. At times, she appears as a winged woman, though most often, she eschews those wings as cumbersome.

Abilities & Skills

Physical Attributes

The Raven Princess is an immortal fae demi-goddess. She is stronger, faster and more dexterous than mortals. Her beauty is as dangerous as it is illuminating, and she has lured in her own number of mortals through such charms. Unlike many more traditional fae, she has no weakness to cold iron. She cannot manifest her powers by the light of the mortal day, and must protect herself with a mortal shell to walk during the day; she cannot tolerate the sunlight.

Magic Skills

  • Dreamcraft: As to be expected, Velcretia has control over dreams and all that entails. She can induce sleep in mortals with the touch of her hand, and manipulate their dreams. She is able to interfere with, and appear in the dreams of mortals.
  • Illusion: Velcretia has the ability to create illusions that are a trick of the light and sight. Rather than trick the mind, her illusions are completely manifested in the world. While they can be seen and heard, they are substance-less and will not withstand touch.
  • Planeswalking: As would seem natural, Velcretia can traverse various realms outside of her domain. She does not often need to visit the other faery realms, but is known to spend time on the mortal plane on occasion.
  • Shapeshifting: The Raven Princess can change her shape at will. She can take the shape of a raven, or also manifest great, black wings that are more than enough to support her weight. She has taken other forms, such as that of a mortal to walk Siveth by day. Aspects of ravens, such as hands with wicked talons can also be manifested, though less.
